This is a Hyflex Course

I want to be flexible with my classes and give you options that help you balance your life with your college classes. This means that you, the student, can choose how you take this course.

Here are your 3 options:

  1. Face To Face
Attend class regularly in the assigned classroom on Western’s campus.
  2. Blended
Attend class face to face in the classroom when you need to, and work on your own using Blackboard and craigkunce.com to access the course materials and to interact with the instructor and other students. You may Zoom in to face to face class lectures, discussions, and demonstrations when you need to. Each class has a Zoom link in Blackboard announcements.
  3. Fully Online
Work on your own using Blackboard and craigkunce.com to access the course materials and to interact with the instructor and other students.

Where will the teacher be?

  • I will be in the assigned face to face Western classroom during our regularly scheduled class meeting time.
  • I will open the Zoom classroom when class begins so you can join us remotely if you need/want to.
  • I will close the Zoom classroom once that day’s demo/lecture/discussion is over.
  • I will still be available during regular class times via Zoom, but you’ll have to email me so I can open the Zoom classroom again and we can talk/video conference.
  • If for some reason (mildly ill, COVID, etc.) I can’t attend class face to face, I’ll open the Zoom classroom from my home office during regular class times and conduct class from my home office.

A little tough love and a dose of reality

Blended and online classes aren’t for everyone. If you have difficulty managing your time or self-directing yourself through the course materials, you may prefer, and you may do better, choosing the face to face option. Make the choice that you feel most comfortable with and that will help you succeed.

There’s no way around the fact that you have to do your part and do the work in my classes. Devote yourself to doing the work and you’ll do well in my classes.

My Expectations

While I’m being flexible with how you attend class and how you interact with the course materials, I do expect you to complete your projects on time and turn in high-quality work. You should check Blackboard and your Western email at least twice each week. Please stay in touch with me as well, especially if your situation changes throughout the term.

I care about your success at Western! I will work with each of you to help you succeed in my classes.
