Photoshop Tutorial: Photo inside Type
This Photoshop tutorial showing how to add a photo or artwork inside of the editable type. It’s a cool trick that you see used often in advertising and web design. The one thing that I really like about this tip is that the type remains completely editable.
Here’s a step-by-step guide
1. First, open a new Photoshop file and set your dimensions. I chose a web image size of 1200×700 pixels.
2. Next, choose the type tool and draw a text box. Enter the text of your choice and style it

3. Open a photo or artwork of your choice and place it in a layer above the type layer.

Position your photo over your type

4. Once you have it positioned, place your cursor/selection arrow between the two layers.
Hold the option key and click between the layers. Or, select the photo layer, control-click, and select Create Clipping Mask.
This will place your photo/art inside the type. Like this:

5. You can still edit the photo of tulips even though it’s inside the type. Simply click the photo layer and type Command-T to transform.

6. You can also duplicate the layers and reposition them

7. You can still edit your type too.

8. And, since a photo in type seldom looks good, we can reduce the opacity of the tulip photos and allow the orange type color to show through.

Now that’s easier to read.
Nice work!
