The Details

Be sure to dress professionally, bring your portfolio and 10 copies of your resume and color samples page. If you have one, bring a laptop to show your web site and/or Flash animation samples. Make sure your battery is charged, or bring an extention cord. Wireless internet is available throughout hte Lunda Center, and there are some outlets.

Each May, near the end of spring semester, the Graphic Design and Visual Communications departments at Western hold a formal portfolio review for their graduating students. This occasion is meant to be a tribute to you, the graduating students, to show our appreciation to you for completing your degree. It also allows you an opportunity to practice presenting your portfolio to your family and friends, first-year students and to potential employers. We invite the entire community to attend and congratulate you on your achievement.

We invite many local area employers to get a first-hand look at our graduates. Our hope is to initiate a first meeting between you and a potential employer. Many employers have set up interviews during the portfolio review, and many of those interviews have led to job offers. So be on your most “professional” behavior.

Basically, what happens is that you show up with your name tag and find a table to set up for the night. Each of you will have your own table/space to set up your portfolio, laptop, and any additional samples or mock-ups you want to bring. You will also have a chair to sit down if you get tired—I suggest that you stand as much as possible. It is more welcoming to viewers, and more professional.

Be prepared to WOW! the attendees and potential employers!
