Week 1 -- 9/5/17

Monday is a Labor Day Holiday

Class A

Class B

  • Demo/scan original packaging
  • Demo straightening and splicing 2 scans together in Photoshop
  • Demo die cut template drawing in Illustrator
  • Try to complete your final box or label template in illustrator

Week 2 -- 9/11/17

Class A

  • Demo: How to score, cut, fold and glue box mock up
  • Demo: Product photography
  • Begin work on your own packaging redesign.
  • Try to complete your 10 thumbs and 1 rough in pencil for the front of your package

Class B

  • Demo: Masking (students, bring your own photo to class to mask along with me)
  • Work on packaging redesign
  • Try to complete your front panel of your package on the computer - as close to final as possible

Week 3 -- 9/18/17

Class A

  • Try to complete your design for two more sides of your package box, or work on your label
  • Work on packaging redesign

Week 4 -- 9/25/17

Class A

  • How's the class going for me? - Survey
  • Try to complete your design for two more sides of your package box, or work on your label

Class B

  • Try to complete your design for two more sides of your package box, or work on your label

Week 5 -- 10/2/17

Class A

Class B

  • Demo how to print on heavyweight packaging paper
  • Demo: 3D Mock up
  • Refine your final packaging redesign

Week 6 -- 10/9/17

Class A

Class B

  • DUE: Project 1 - Packaging redesign
  • What to put on Behance:
    • Title
    • Description of your project (you write)
    • Pictures of your packaging mock up (as many views as you need to show all sides)
    • Illustrator template
    • Developmental sketches (optional—but employers like them)
    • Design your own branded headers (optional—but them look cool)

Week 7 -- 10/16/17

Class A

  • Continue adding your packaging redesign to Behance
    (Shoot photos, upload files, design category headers, etc.)

Class B

  • Follow my Behance page so I can view your final Behance project
  • DUE: Present your packaging redesign to class using your Behance page
  • Over the weekend: Choose a company or product for your next brand identity project

Week 8 -- 10/23/17

Class A

  • Begin Project 2: Brand Identity
    • Print and complete project evaluation sheet
    • Introduce 5 steps, potential project and target market ideas
  • Discuss Project Steps
    • Step 1 - Summary
    • Step 2 - Sketches
    • Step 3 - Brand Standards
    • Step 4 - Marketing Collateral
    • Step 5 - Behance Presentation
  • Demo: Good Design
  • Write your summary and upload to Behance
    Also decide which two marketing pieces you'll design for your project

Class B

  • Try to complete10 thumbs and 1 rough for your brand identity's logo

Week 9 -- 10/30/17

Class A

  • Try to complete 21 progressive logo designs on the computer

Class B

  • DUE: Group critique of 21progressive logo designs (Group Critique Guidelines)
  • Try to complete your final logo design on the computer (make the changes your group suggested)

Week 10 - 11/6/17

Class A

  • Try to complete 10 thumbs and 1 rough of the front of one marketing piece
  • Your marketing pieces must have: message, logo, type, art, color scheme, photos, and repeatable design elements. This shows employers your talent to design with many branding elements at once. They might not all appear on the cover.

Class B

  • Try to complete your final design of the marketing piece's front - on the computer
